An internationally awarded combat photographer, who is about to go into retirement, has documented the horrors of war and the humanitarian crises happening as a result of them and delivering them to society through his photographs.
In the early 80’s, he is sent to cover the arrival to Earth of an unidentified object. The ship is an unmanned vessel created with the intent of establishing contact with intelligent lifeforms, but its concept of “life” is so different from humanity’s that its very attempt to do so generates global chaos.
Ignorant of the aliens’ intentions and in a deep state of terror, humanity sees its capacity to communicate through electronic means completely nullified: suddenly, any device or concept dependent on electrical connection has become useless, which exposes the species’ most basic instincts.

Although he has found happiness in Insula, Hantauros wishes to fulfill this role, as he feels the unavoidable impulse to take to the seas and discover his origins. Urso feels his heart divided between staying in the peaceful land or respecting the child’s yearning to uncover his roots. Ultimately, he decides to voyage alongside him, guiding him and protecting him through the diverse experiences they will face until they find his home.
The novels narrate the journeys of the group of explorers around the globe, which is populous with islands entirely isolated from each other, housing different civilizations which have developed completely independently in terms of their morphology, ideology, belief systems, customs, and unique worldviews along with their original technologies and understanding of magical arts.
